The injury Miami Dolphins rookie running back De’Von Achane suffered against the Houston Texans in Saturday’s preseason matchup has now been confirmed. According to Fox Sports senior NFL writer Armando Salguero, the former Texas A&M had to be carted off the field with a shoulder injury.

“RB De’Von Achane, who left the field on a cart this afternoon, had a shoulder injury. More info tomorrow after MRI, per Mike McDaniel,” said Salguero via X.

Unfortunately, the severity of Achane’s shoulder injury, or which shoulder is impacted by the injury, is still unknown. However, more information should be made available in the following hours as the Dolphins’ rookie is set to undergo an MRI scheduled for Sunday.

Achane’s injury was believed to have occurred during Miami’s third drive of the game. Unfortunately for Dolphin fans, that was the second injury of that drive as backup quarterback Skylar Thompson had to come off the field moments prior and head to the blue injury tent after being knocked to the ground and hitting his head awkwardly. Thompson was able to make his way back into the game after being evaluated.

Achane was able to walk to the blue medical tent and to the cart under his own power. Before heading back to the locker rooms for further evaluation, Achane was enjoying a solid performance in the Dolphins’ second preseason game. At the time he left the field, the former Aggie had recorded six carries for 27 yards, averaging just shy of five yards per carry.

It wasn’t all bad news for Miami on Saturday. Despite a handful of players getting injured in the game, including Achane, the Dolphins dominated in their second preseason game, leaving Houston with a 28-3 victory. Thompson lit up the Texans’ defense, completing 15 of his 22 pass attempts for 157 yards, three touchdowns, and zero interceptions.

Rushing-wise running back Salvon Ahmed made the most of his playing time on Saturday. He finished the contest as the games leading rusher with 12 carries for 99 yards. His performance alone tripled Houston’s rushing yards as a team for the game: 32.

For their final game of the preseason, Miami will head back to their home to Florida to take on their in-state AFC rival Jacksonville. While Dolphins fans would love to have Achane suited up and playing against the Jaguars, the focus will likely shift to ensuring that he is able to contribute and play once the regular season starts Sept 10.
