Mike Tomlin addresses no-call on hit to kicker Chris Boswell

Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin is still upset over a hit his kicker, Chris Boswell, took in their victory over the Cleveland Browns on Sunday. On a fake field goal attempt late in the second quarter, Boswell took a shot from Browns’ defensive tackle, Jordan Elliott, knocking him out of bounds and out of the game. The hit that Elliott delivered was helmet to helmet but did not draw a penalty flag, as referee Shawn Hochuli said his crew did not see “any contact that rose to the level of a foul.”

At a press conference on Tuesday, Tomlin was asked about the hit to his kicker.

“I’m not getting into that,” he said. “I know Hochuli gave his statement. No color needs to be added from me. It’s in our rearview, and we’re moving on to the next one.”

Boswell was knocked out of the game with a concussion and is still currently in concussion protocol. The Steelers are set to take on the Chicago Bears on Monday night. And with a Monday night game that gives Boswell additional time to recover. But as a precaution, Pittsburgh will sign kicker Josh Lambo to their practice squad.

In typical Tomlin fashion, the Steelers head coach briefly addressed the issue and moved the presser along.

Pittsburgh Steelers trade Melvin Ingram

On Tuesday with just hours remaining before the 4 p.m. ET deadline, the Steelers dealt All-Pro linebacker Melvin Ingram to the Kansas City Chiefs in a move that may have surprised some Steelers fans.

The Kansas City Chiefs, at a disappointing 4-4 and ranked 29th in the NFL in total defense, made a move to bolster a group in need of serious help if they are going to make a move in the playoffs.

Ingram, 32, was in his first season with the Pittsburgh Steelers after nine with the Chargers. He’s played on 62 percent of Pittsburgh’s defensive snaps this season, but with only one start and limited production (nine tackles, one sack). He’s recorded 18 pressures as a pass rusher, per Pro Football Focus.

With Ingram gone, the Steelers’ outside linebacker depth is thin, but it’s clear Tomlin and the defensive staff have trust in their core group of players. Derrek Tuszka, initially selected by the Denver Broncos in the seventh round of the 2020 draft, is the only other outside linebacker on the active roster behind starters TJ Watt and Alex Highsmith.
