Chargers receiver Mike Williams and Chiefs running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire have both been ruled out for the remainder of Sunday Night Football with ankle injuries, it was reported on the NBC broadcast.

With Kansas City trailing 20-13 at the start of the second half, Edwards-Helaire’s exit will force the Chiefs to lean more on running back Isiah Pacheco. For the Chargers, coach Brandon Staley named several players who must step up in Williams’ absence.

“Some of those others guys are gonna have to step up,” he said. “Josh Palmer, Dre, Bandy. We’ve got some tight ends that are gonna have to step up, too. Hate it for Mike because he was off to a great start in the game.”

Prior to his exit, Mike Williams caught his only target of the game for a 15-yard gain, while Clyde Edwards-Helaire had two carries for nine yards. Palmer has stepped up with Williams out and currently leads all receivers in the game with seven catches for 100 yards and a touchdown.

Kadarius Toney questionable to return with hamstring injury

Williams and Edwards-Helaire weren’t the only players to suffer injuries, however. Kansas City Chiefs receiver Kadarius Toney suffered a hamstring injury Sunday night against the Chargers and is questionable to return, per the NBC broadcast.

Prior to his exit, Toney had been targeted only once but did not record a catch. He is playing in just his third game with Kansas City after being traded to the team from the New York Giants. In his first two contest, both Chiefs wins, he combined for six catches for 69 yards and a touchdown.

Kansas City entered the locker room trailing the Chargers 20-13, so it will hope that Toney is healthy enough to return for the second half. If not, they’ll continue to look to Jody Forton, who leads all receivers with two catches for 51 yards.
