Minnesota Vikings acquire Houston Texans' first-round pick in multiple-pick trade

The Houston Texans are executing a trade with the Minnesota Vikings on Friday, which will send their first-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft to their NFC North counterparts. The Vikings will get Houston’s No. 23 pick, and No. 232 as well, in exchange for Minnesota’s No. 42 overall selection and No. 188, according to NFL insider Tom Pelissero. Houston will also get a second-round pick from Minnesota for the 2025 NFL Draft.
The trade now gives Minnesota two first-round picks in this year’s draft. They also own pick No. 11 overall.
With two picks in the first round of this year’s draft, the Vikings now have the option to draft a quarterback early. The team lost Kirk Cousins to a megadeal with the Atlanta Falcons and could use a young gun. They did sign veteran Sam Darnold to a new contract to bring him in from the 49ers where he served as Brock Purdy‘s backup.
Houston Texans acquire Joe Mixon in trade
This week, the Houston Texans executed another trade, this time for Cincinnati Bengals running back Joe Mixon. The Bengals decided to move on from Mixon, the former Oklahoma Sooner star, in favor of signing Zack Moss, the former Indianapolis Colt, to a two-year, $8 million contract. The Texans traded a 2024 seventh-round pick to the Bengals to acquire their new running back.
Trading Mixon saved the Bengals $6.1 million on the 2024 salary cap with $2.75 million in dead money. The Texans didn’t just pick up the one year remaining on the running back’s contract, they also decided to extend his deal.
