Minnesota breaking out throwback uniforms for opener

When the Vikings take the field against the Buccaneers on Sept. 10, they’ll be paying homage to history. Minnesota will wear special uniforms for this year’s season opener.

In July, the team revealed the “Viking Classic” throwback uniforms for the upcoming year.

Minnesota unveiled the classic look in a video released on social media. The uniform pays tribute to the jerseys the Vikings wore in the 1960s and 1970s.

Per the team’s website, the “Classic Viking” uniform features a “deeper Purple hue than the modern jersey.” Other features include “large numbers with traditional slab serif font and gold trim. Sleeves feature the original classic striping.”

The team also made these old-school uniforms available for purchase. So, if you’re a fan of the look, you’ll be able to sport the classic uniform on game day.

Vikings enter new year without Dalvin Cook

Minnesota’s backfield will look a little bit different in 2023. Dalvin Cook, who spent the first six years of his NFL career with the Vikings, was released by the team earlier in the offseason.

Cook later signed a deal with the New York Jets.

“I hold Dalvin in the highest regard and am grateful for his contributions on and off the field. Dalvin is a tough, dynamic player and a respected leader by his teammates, which was evident by his multiple seasons as a team captain,” Minnesota head coach Kevin O’Connell said in a statement. “As a finalist for the 2022 Art Rooney Sportsmanship Award, Dalvin’s approach to the game and his commitment to sportsmanship is clearly respected across the league. We appreciate Dalvin’s positivity, energy and leadership and will be pulling for him in the future.”

Cook was a four-time Pro Bowl selection during his time with the Vikings. He rushed for 5,993 yards and 47 touchdowns during his time in the Twin Cities.
