The NASCAR Playoffs Round of 8 is upon us after the elimination race at the Charlotte Roval, four more drivers have been eliminated. After five previous races with nothing but playoff winners, a spoiler finally got a checkered flag.

AJ Allmendinger took the win in this race. That doesn’t have a lot to do with the playoff eliminations, but it put Kyle Busch in a really tough spot.

Prior to the Roval race, William Byron and Ryan Blaney both picked up wins at Texas and Talladega, respectively. They are now joined by six others in the Round of 8. This race didn’t have as much chaos as many had hoped. Still, there were some surprises.

As the NASCAR Playoffs head to the Round of 8, we get another points reset. The field is closer now than they ever have been in the playoffs this season. It should be a fun battle in the next three races to determine the Championship Four.

In terms of surprises, Brad Keselowski is now out of the playoffs. He was the only driver that started above the cutline on Sunday that was eliminated.

Drivers Eliminated:
Ross Chastain
Bubba Wallace
Brad Keselowski
Kyle Busch

Kyle Busch had to win in order to make the NASCAR Round of 8. Wallace had to finish around the top-5 after getting his stage points earlier in the race. Keselowski and Chastain fell just short as well.

There was never a catastrophic wreck for the playoff drivers to open up a window for one of these drivers.

Drivers Remaining:
William Byron +20
Martin Truex Jr. +15
Denny Hamlin +11
Kyle Larson +3

NASCAR Playoffs Round of 8

As NASCAR heads to the Round of 8, there are three great tracks. Las Vegas, Homestead-Miami, and Martinsville – each provide these playoff drivers with ample opportunity to win and advance to the Championship Four.

Looking at the field, there are a few drivers that should thrive in this round, if they can stay clean. Ryan Blaney is a driver to watch. I think William Byron might go out and be dominant just as we have seen in these playoffs up to this point.

Martin Truex Jr. gets another reset after surviving yet again. The regular season championship has come in handy for Truex this season. He’s still alive because of those bonus points he got before the playoffs started.
