Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant has been facing criticism after being filmed waving a gun around on multiple occasions. The most recent was in an Instagram Live video and led to Memphis suspending him with a suspension likely coming from the NBA.

Commissioner Adam Silver said he didn’t want any suspension to overshadow the NBA Finals. With the Denver Nuggets parade scheduled for Thursday, the suspension could be coming soon. So, NBA insider Brian Windhorst went on Get Up and explained what to expect for the suspension.

“One thing that Adam Silver said as a follow-up in an interview after making those comments at the Finals was that this is not a legal issue,” Brian Windhorst said. “It’s a safety issue. So, I think what he’s basically prepared for is a lengthy suspension that isn’t tied to some sort of charge.”

Windhorst also gave some context for the Ja Morant suspension. In particular, he cited Miles Bridges, who recently pled no-contest to a felony charge.

“But one thing I think people should understand as a point of reference, right at the end of the season the NBA suspended Miles Bridges of the Charlotte Hornets 30 games for pleading no-contest to a felony domestic violence charge. So, 30 games for a no-contest plea in a felony case is a framework to understand how the NBA is currently dealing with player discipline.”

Because of that, it would seemingly be difficult to suspend Ja Morant any longer than 30 games because he didn’t commit a crime.

“So, I know that when Silver made those comments that there was a jump to conclusion that there was gonna be an extremely lengthy suspension here, but keep in mind that Miles Bridges with, essentially, a guilty plea got 30 games.”

Gilbert Arenas sent a strong message to Ja Morant

During his playing days, Gilbert Arenas was an All-Star talent. He also was involved in an incident within the locker room where he reportedly drew a gun on a teammate. This led to him being suspended for most of the 2009-10 NBA season.

Now, Arenas has sent a message to Ja Morant following his recent gun incidents.

“What do you want your legacy to be?” Arenas asked. “I did 99 things right. I did one thing wrong. Everybody remembers the one thing. No matter how many championships, how many scoring titles you win. They’re going to remember this moment in this time.”
