Victor Wembanyama has been welcomed to the United States in one of the more odd ways possible based on a report this morning regarding an incident between someone from his security team and Britney Spears.

Now, new updates to the report have cleared up some information on the incident. Per the latest from TMZ, law enforcement “will be meeting face-to-face with Britney Spears this morning.” They’re doing so to further talk out what happened. However, from what police told them, security footage has already provided different telling of the incident.

“Our law enforcement sources tell us the cops who responded to ARIA reviewed security camera footage showing Smith push Britney’s hand away…and then her hand, not Smith’s, struck her face,” TMZ wrote. “Cops did not address the velocity of the force of the swing.”

This all took place in Las Vegas, Nevada. Wembanyama is there in preparation for his first appearance as an NBA player at the NBA Summer League.

According to TMZ, Wembanyama was in the same restaurant as Britney Spears. At some point, she attempted to speak with Wembanyama. However, as she approached him and tapped him on the shoulder, Damian Smith, Director of Team Security for San Antonio, put an immediate end to her contact with Wembanyama. He reportedly struck her so hard she fell down and lost her glasses.

“Britney and co. walked over to Catch and, as they were entering the restaurant, Britney spotted Victor. We’re told she’s a fan. And (she) went over to him to ask if they could take a photo together,” wrote TMZ. “She tapped him on his back right shoulder. And we’re told the Director of Team Security for the San Antonio Spurs instantly backhanded her, causing her to fall to the ground (and) knocking her glasses off.”

Spears has since filed a police report. They added that Spears remained at the restaurant and sat at her table afterwards. Then, at some point, Smith apologized and explained himself with: “You understand how it is when you’re being swarmed by fans.”

Still, even with an apology, TMZ says Spears and her team “filed a police report with the Metropolitan Police Dept. alleging battery.”

Again, this is about as strange of a start that Wembanyama can have in America. The goal now is to put whatever took place behind him as he locks in on his first NBA appearance tomorrow night at 9 p.m. EST on ESPN versus the Charlotte Hornets and No. 2 pick Brandon Miller.
