Former Dallas Cowboys linebacker Anthony Barr is working out for the New Orleans Saints on Monday, according to Dianna Russini. The veteran linebacker played the 2022 season with Dallas on a one-year deal worth $2 million but his contract ran out in March, making him a free agent.

Despite a hamstring injury that briefly sidelined him, Barr played 16 games for the Cowboys last season. The former Minnesota Vikings first-round draft pick posted 58 tackles during the regular season and an additional nine in the two postseason games. He also added a sack and two fumble recoveries, along with 4.5 tackles for loss.

The 2014 draft pick out of UCLA played eight seasons with the Vikings, which came to a close last offseason. He had restructured his 2021 deal to clear up $2.8 million in cap space but the Vikings ultimately let him go into free agency for 2022. In 2019, he signed the biggest deal of his career for five years, $67.5 million.

With Minnesota, Barr started all 98 games he played. He made four straight Pro Bowls from 2015-18 and racked up 39 tackles for loss, 17.5 sacks, eight forced fumbles, five interceptions, and 31 pass breakups during his time in the Purple and Gold.

Saints extend star DE Cam Jordan

The New Orleans Saints and All-Pro defensive end Cam Jordan agreed to terms on a contract extension for two years last week, which locks him in through 2025. His new deal is worth “up to” $27.5 million guaranteed, per NFL insider Ian Rapoport.

With the extension, Jordan is likely going to be a Saint for the rest of his career. The 2023 season will be his 13th in the league and with the Saints.

Since New Orleans chose him with the No. 24 overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft, Jordan has the second-most sacks in the NFL. Over 12 seasons so far, he’s racked up 115.5 sacks, and another 5.5 in postseason appearances.

According to Spotrac, Jordan has brought in over $108 million in career earnings from the Saints.

The Cal alum has 639 career regular-season tackles. Despite turning 34 last year, Jordan posted 66 tackles last season, one shy of his single-season high, and his 8.5 sacks were his 7th-most in a single season.

Prior to training camp, the veteran defensive end outlined his goals for the Saints this season – which are lofty.

“I expect the Super Bowl,” Jordan said in a SiriusXM NFL Radio interview. “I expect to take Derek Carr, DC4, back to Vegas where he just left and have a return run at the Super Bowl.”

Throughout his career, the Saints legend has made eight Pro Bowls. He’s also a two-time second-team All-Pro and a one-time first-team All-Pro (2017).
