New York Giants linebacker Kayvon Thibodeaux wouldn’t be where he is today if it weren’t for his mom, Shawnta Loice. So following his rookie NFL season, he decided to pay her back in a big way.

Thibodeaux posted a video to his YouTube channel on Monday revealing that he bought his mom a new house. He started the video by driving around the apartment complex where he grew up in grade school, explaining that he and his mom lived with five other people in a two-bedroom apartment.

After giving the background on where he came from, Thibodeaux met up with his mother to drive her to the new house and reveal the surprise. Once he saw the look on her face, he explained how much the moment meant to him.

“I can’t really explain it,” he said. “You do all this. You work so hard. You put everything on the line every day just so that your family can be happy. When I was in high school, I had to live with another family. After that, I went to college. For five years of my life, I never had dinner with my mom. We never sat at a table with my family. We never had a place for all the family to get together for Christmas and holidays when the time came. So now just being able to provide that, it’s a blessing.”

Loice looked around in awe as she toured the home. With a big smile on her face, she did her best to hold back tears of joy as she gave her son a hug.

“I can’t believe that still,” she said. “Sometimes I’m like, it’s a blessing. You know what I mean? Just to be able to see him living out his dream. That’s crazy.”

Kayvon Thibodeaux went on to explain that he had the idea to get his mom a house for a while. When his grandmother recently got sick, he knew he had to go forward with the plan as soon as possible so the whole family could enjoy the home together.

The scene in the video showed Thibodeaux and some kids playing basketball in the backyard. There was also a bounce house as the whole family celebrated. Thibodeaux hopes it can be just the first of many memories to be made in the house, which he wants to be a space where all of his family can gather together for years to come.

“I wanted my family to be together,” he said. “You kind of have a realization that family’s not gonna be here forever. Just to get everybody here and have everybody enjoy it and know that you ain’t gotta leave at a certain time. Knowing that we can all be comfortable. Knowing that it’s a space for everybody.

“I was making jokes (that) this is the first time we had a (bounce house) in the backyard. It’s all fun, but it’s definitely a blessing. You work hard for things like this. God always says you get your blessing when you bless other people. Just to see my family here, I can’t ask for nothing more.”
