Amid a contract holdout from running back Saquon Barkley, the New York Giants have signed free agent running back James Robinson to a one-year deal.

Barkley currently has no intention of joining the team for training camp after failing to sign either his one-year franchise tag or a long-term deal this offseason.

Robinson, who led the Jacksonville Jaguars’ rushing attack in 2021, will provide the Giants some additional support until they figure out to do with the loss of 40% of their offensive production.

James Robinson started the 2022 season with the Jaguars, playing seven games, before getting traded to the New York Jets. He signed a two-year deal for $4 million with the New England Patriots when the free agency window opened in March, but they released him in June.

An undrafted free agent out of Illinois State, Robinson has 514 career carries so far in the NFL. He’s racked up 2,262 yards with 18 touchdowns over three seasons. His career average yards per carry is 4.4, meanwhile, Barkley’s is 4.5 YPC.

Giants sign Cole Beasley

After making a triumphant return from retirement last season to play for the Buccaneers then the Buffalo Bills, wide receiver Cole Beasley is staying in New York. The former Dallas Cowboys wideout signed with the New York Giants on Friday, according to Mike Garafolo. The Giants confirmed the news of his signing on Friday as well.

Details of his contract are still under wraps but it appears the 34-year-old will have a place to play for his 12th season.

“Let’s get to work big dog. Excited for the opportunity,” Beasley responded to his new teammate Isaiah Hodgins on Twitter on Friday.

Beasley played in six games total last season. He first played two with the Bucs before rejoining the Bills for two regular season games and two postseason games. During their playoff run, he had five catches for 68 yards and a touchdown.

The former undrafted wideout from SMU joined the Dallas Cowboys in 2012. He wound up playing seven seasons with the star on his helmet before signing a deal with Buffalo for four years, $29 million. His most productive season in the NFL came in 2020 when he had 967 yards on 82 catches with four touchdowns.

Over 11 seasons in the NFL, Beasley has 5,744 career receiving yards, 34 touchdowns and 556 catches in regular season games. He also has 45 catches, 525 yards, and one post-season touchdown grab.
