The New York Jets have placed star wide receiver Elijah Moore on injured reserve due to a quad injury, according to Connor Hughes of The Athletic. According to Hughes, the hope is that it’s only for three weeks for the talented rookie receiver. But that timeline is not definitive.

It’s a massive, massive blow to the Jets’ offense, which is now without their top three playmakers, Corey Davis, Elijah Moore, and running back Michael Carter. Another gruesome stat for Jets fans. Fourteen of the Jets 22 projected Week 1 starters are expected to miss Sunday’s game against the New Orleans Saints.

Moore had just started to shine recently in his rookie season for the Jets. The former Ole Miss standout had hauled in five touchdown catches in his last five games for the Jets. He was delivering on the same promise and potential he showed as an electrifying receiver during his time with the Ole Miss Rebels.

The best game of his rookie year with the Jets came on Nov. 21 against the Miami Dolphins, when he snatched eight catches for 141 receiving yards and one touchdown catch. Thus far in his rookie year, he’s hauled in 43 catches for 538 receiving yards and five touchdown catches.

Moore developed a great chemistry and connection with his quarterback, Zach Wilson, early on in Jets training camp this August. The connection has continued for parts of the 2021 season. But both players have been banged up at various stages of the season. Wilson has only played in eight of 12 games and he’s been battling a number of injuries throughout the year.

If the Jets are hoping to take down the New Orleans Saints on Sunday, they’ll have to do so with most of their backups on the offensive side of the ball.

The Saints will be trotting out quarterback Taysom Hill, who suffered a mallet injury to his right middle finger last Thursday. New Orleans does return star running back Alvin Kamara back on the field, as he’s missed the last four games with a knee injury.

The Jets (3-9 overall) and the Saints (5-7 overall) kickoff on Sunday at 1:00 PM EST from MetLife Stadium.
