NFL announcer sneaks in Taylor Swift reference on Travis Kelce touchdown

On Sunday, Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce returned to the field and returned to the end zone in Kansas City’s victory over Jacksonville.
Patrick Mahomes’ favorite target didn’t take long to get on the board his season debut. Thanks to another terrific play design from mastermind Andy Reid, Kelce eluded defensive backs like a getaway car to find a sliver of open grass, where the reigning MVP hit him for the score. As he made the TD grab to put KC up 13-6, broadcaster Ian Eagle remarked on Kelce’s other kind of score recently, noting that the tight end found a “Blank Space” for the catch.
Check out the touchdown from Kelce and the Taylor Swift jab from Eagle. In case you’re unaware or simply uninterested, Travis Kelce is rumored to have made tight company with the world-famous pop star recently.
The rust? Shake it off. Because that first touchdown of the year for the Mahomes-Kelce combo looked just like normal. In a sequence that NFL defenses know all too well, Mahomes scrambled around for a bit and ultimately floated a perfectly-placed pass to his favorite target for six. And the Jaguars knew he was trouble, since they double-covered him, yet Kelce still wiggled free for the TD.

It’s feeling like ’22 all over again now that the reigning champs are back in the win column following a bizarre Week 1 loss. For Jacksonville, a win would’ve been even better than revenge for last year’s loss to Kansas City, since it would have dropped KC to 0-2 and helped the Jags to a 2-0 start, plus gives them the head-to-head win — important developments for playoff seeding purposes should both squads make it. To think, a two-game lead over Kansas City just two weeks into the season? That kind of start would be greater than any Jaguar fan’s wildest dreams.
Nonetheless, it was the team in red that once again came out of the woods victorious.
Plus, Kelce wasn’t the only notable re-addition to the lineup for Kansas City. Defensive lineman Chris Jones and the KC front office put their bad blood aside to finally negotiate a new one-year contract to get him back on the field. In the first game of his 2023 campaign, the fearless pass rusher recorded a sack-and-a-half as the Chiefs put on a tremendous defensive performance.
On your way out, there’s just one question: How many of the dozen Taylor Swift references (aside from Eagle’s) did you catch?
