Denver Broncos star outside linebacker Von Miller has become the subject of trade talks, according to CBS Sports insider Jason La Canfora. The report indicates multiple NFL general managers believe a bidding war will take place ahead of Tuesday’s trade deadline.

Miller is an eight-time Pro Bowler and three-time All-Pro who made the Hall of Fame’s All-2010’s Team after winning the 2011 Defensive Rookie of the Year award. He has 110.5 career sacks with 509 tackles and 142 tackles for loss. So far in 2021, Miller has posted 4.5 sacks and 19 tackles over seven games.

La Canfora expanded on Von Miller’s availability in his trade deadline primer.

“Rival GMs believe Miller is ripe to be dealt, given the prevailing need for pass rush, Miller’s expiring contract, the Broncos’ collective struggles and the strong perception that there could be significant changes coming for the organization in 2022,” wrote La Canfora.

At 32-years old. Miller’s trade value has plummeted since his prime. Recent injuries and an expiring $9 million cap hit also complicate matters. CBS spoke with several NFL general managers who weighed the Broncos options in a potential Miller mega-deal.

“”I don’t know why they wouldn’t do it,” one general manager told CBS. “He has wanted out for a while, he won’t be back there next year, they are struggling with him. Probably will have a new coach next year. George (Paton) has to be looking for picks at this point.”

Another GM said: “I’m not sure we can afford him, but if the Broncos are willing to move some money around and help with the cap number, I bet they get a [third-round pick] for him.”

Another potential trade

In addition to Von Miller trade rumors, Jason La Canfora addressed the latest on New York Giants tight end Evan Engram. The former first-round pick has been the subject of trade rumors for several seasons after a disappointing NFL start.

Engram is a one-time Pro Bowler but has not developed how many within the Giants organization hoped. He has taken on a decreased role, only catching one touchdown pass over the past two seasons. His career 2,591 receiving yards and 13 touchdowns offer promise to playoff contenders but those numbers appear in the past, more than the future.

Despite constant rumors, the $6 million cap hit scares off several contending teams. La Canfora reports that the trade market has cooled down with low compensation on the table and little incentive for both sides.
