The Pittsburgh Steelers are signing veteran linebacker Nick Kwiatkoski to a one-year deal, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN reported Tuesday.

A Pittsburgh native, Kwiatkoski worked out with the Steelers last Tuesday in hopes of landing with his childhood team.

“I came in, did my physical and am getting into practices and meetings and went through everything,” Kwiatkoski told reporters practice. “So, kind of on a ‘Going until someone tells me to stop [basis].’ So, we will see.”

He added: “I grew up a Steelers fan. Bethel Park, obviously, I was close. Awesome opportunity for me, and I am excited about it. Only been here a day, but first day was great. Guys were awesome, the coaches are great — and looking forward to tomorrow.”

Kwiatkoski, 30, has spent seven seasons in the NFL with three different teams (Chicago Bears 2016-19, Las Vegas Raiders 2020-21, Atlanta Falcons 2022). He suited up in 12 games for the Falcons this past season, recording seven tackles (three solo). 228 of his snaps came on special teams, where he’s mainly featured over the last two seasons.

He’s posted 293 tackles in his career, with 208 of them solo. Kwiatkoski has also registered seven sacks, with 17 tackles for loss. In addition, he’s forced six forced fumbles with two interceptions in 89 games.

Following four seasons in Chicago, Kwiatkoski inked a three-year, $21 million deal with Las Vegas ahead of the 2020 season. He started all 12 games he played in 2020 before losing his starting gig in 2021. The Raiders released him at season’s end.

The signing of Kwiatkoski came in the aftermath of the team cutting ties with receiver Anthony Miller. Originally the Bears’ second-round selection in the 2018 NFL Draft out of Memphis, Miller joined the Steelers during the 2021 season. He suited up in just one game, failing to carve out a role in the offense.
