The Super Bowl is always the biggest stage in all of sports and it’s not even close. That means plenty of college football teams across the country are eager to wish their former player good luck in the big game. And a little bit after the game started, Oklahoma State football’s Twitter page made the mistake that no social media team wants to make in the big game involving 49ers wide receiver Tay Martin.

They congratulated Martin and the team on their Super Bowl Championship, which would have been a great idea, but the game was in the first quarter.

To make matters even worse, the 49ers ended up heartbreakingly losing the Super Bowl in overtime, 25-22.

Before playing for Oklahoma State, Martin also spent some time with the Washington State Cougars. In April of 2022, he signed with the San Francisco 49ers as an undrafted free agent. In 2021, he earned second-team All-Big 12 honors for Oklahoma State.

When he arrived in Stillwater shortly before the start of the 2020 season, Martin backed up All-American Tylan Wallace in 2020. He had a breakout season in the 2021 campaign as Oklahoma State’s primary receiver. Martin became just the 10th player in school history to record a 1,000-yard receiving season. Once he hung up his cleats with the Cowboys, he had firmly cemented his place as one of the better receivers to grace the gridiron in Stillwater.

For his entire college football career, the Louisiana native finished with 238 catches, 2,810 receiving yards, and 28 receiving touchdowns. Martin earned second-team All-Big 12 honors from the coaches and AP in 2021, after he hauled in 80 catches for 1,046 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns.

As a high school prospect, he played for Ellender Memorial, earning first-team 4A All-State honors from the Louisiana Coaches Association after he hauled in 45 catches for 751 yards and eight touchdowns. He also rushed for 493 yards and five touchdowns. As a defender, he racked up 36 tackles and two interceptions.

As a junior, Martin hauled in 51 catches for 825 yards and seven touchdowns. He also was a star on defense, tallying 71 tackles with two sacks and one interception. In the 2017 cycle, Martin was rated as a three-star recruit and the No. 1,416 overall prospect in the country, according to the On3 Industry Rankings.
