Green Bay Packers offensive lineman Jon Runyan Jr. got a surprise in the mail this week in the form of a disciplinary letter and fine from his own father. The former Michigan star learned that the NFL would fine him $5,215 for leg-whipping versus the Giants in London last week. However, the sender of the letter was Jon Runyan Sr. who is the NFL’s vice president of football operations.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, this is the first instance of a father ordering a team to fine his own son in the league. The case isn’t closed either as Runyan Jr. is appealing the fine.

“My dad and I always joked about this happening, but I never thought my style of play would ever warrant what he deemed to be unnecessary roughness, but it happened,” Runyan told ESPN. “I thought since I left for college, I wouldn’t have to deal with him punishing me anymore, but I was wrong about that.”

Jon Runyan Jr. is in his third season in the NFL with the Green Bay Packers. They selected him with the No. 192 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.

The Packers lost that game versus the Giants and are now 3-2 on the year.

Rodgers good to go for Packers-Jets

Aaron Rodgers is available for the Green Bay Packers after dealing with an injury to his right thumb for Week 6’s matchup vs. the New York Jets. After missing Wednesday’s practice, the two-time reigning NFL MVP was full-go for Thursday and Friday.

“He threw the ball really well yesterday,” Packers head coach LaFleur said Friday, “so he’s confident.” LaFleur also said he is unsure whether or not Rodgers will tape his injured thumb.

Elsewhere, rookie wide receiver Christian Watson, who is dealing with a hamstring injury, was ruled out after not being able to practice over the past couple of days. Offensive linemen Rasheed Walker and Sean Rhyan will be missing from the offensive line rotation as well.

Green Bay (3-2) is looking to get back on track after a nail-biting loss to the Giants in London last Sunday, while the Jets are having a better season than anticipated, and is looking to put itself as the main contender to dethrone the Buffalo Bills from atop the AFC East.

Kickoff between the Packers and Jets is at for 1 p.m. ET Sunday afternoon live on FOX.
