Insider reports from Green Bay Packers offseason practices reveal that quarterback Jordan Love has established a “go-to guy” in second-year receiver Romeo Doubs.

The former fourth-round draft pick is coming off of a rookie season with 42 receptions on 67 targets. He racked up 425, for an average of 10.1 yards per carry, and scored three touchdowns. Those connections were with former Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers but now with Jordan Love, the chemistry is still strong.

“While Christian Watson got most of the attention for his big plays late last season, Doubs has seemingly become quarterback Jordan Love’s go-to guy — at least in the offseason practices,” ESPN Packers insider Rob Demovsky reported. “Whether it’s in scripted team periods or move-the-ball drills like the two-minute simulation, Doubs has been targeted time and again.

“Don’t forget, it was Doubs who starred last preseason when Love got all the No. 1 reps in the games because Aaron Rodgers didn’t play. And Doubs was off to a strong start last year as a rookie until a midseason ankle injury changed his trajectory.”

Doubs finished the 2022 season as the fourth-leading receiver for the Packers but his star could be rising in 2023. Earlier in the offseason, the young wideout made headlines when he said he didn’t think there was much difference between catching passes from Rodgers and Love.

“I think Jordan is a really good quarterback,” Doubs told Dennis Krause. “When you go from Aaron Rodgers to Jordan, Aaron was a really great quarterback, but I believe Jordan can do the same exact thing. So I don’t really see what’s the big difference.”

Matt LaFleur pleased with Doubs’ offseason

Packers head coach Matt LaFleur praised the work Doubs has put into his development this offseason.

“I think last year, I know I talked about just his process and his routine that he has. There are some times where you almost have to pull him back because he’s so invested into it and puts so much time into it that I think sometimes you can almost wear yourself out,” LaFleur said. “So, I think that’s one thing with him — you never have to worry about whether or not he’s working. And I know from when we get out of here and the time that he spends away from here, he will be very deliberate with what he does.

“So, I expect him to be able to pick up right where he left off. He’s done some unbelievable things throughout the course of these OTAs, just whether it’s with the route running, the catches, and just continues to build on that rapport he has with Jordan.”
