Carolina Panthers’ wide receiver Robbie Anderson got ejected from his team’s sideline on Sunday vs. the LA Rams. Anderson got into a number of arguments with Joe Dailey–the Panthers’ wide receiver coach, before Carolina interim head coach Steve Wilks sent him to the showers early. An ejection from a team’s sideline is a very rare occurrence in the National Football League. After Sunday’s game, Anderson took the time to clear the air with reporters and explained exactly why he was tossed in an article written by Jelani Scott of Sports Illustrated.

The former Temple standout explained that he had a disagreement with the Panthers’ coaching staff after they subbed him out on a third down. Anderson also noted that he wanted to speak with the media because he didn’t want anybody to “have a misconception about me,” according to the article.

“I’m here to do all I can to help us win, it’s third down, I’m being taken out the game, you know, I don’t think I should be OK with that,” Anderson said. “So, I made a comment, ‘It’s the money down, why am I being taken out?’ And that’s that.”

When he was asked about why he was taken out, the Florida native explained that he wasn’t sure but that he was focused on having a chance to help the team succeed.

“I have no idea but one thing I do, I always stand on and continue to do is I give my all to everything that I do,” he said. “I don’t play this game for money, I don’t play this game for fame, things like that. I play this game ’cause I love the game of football. And regardless of what’s been going on the past week, I always keep my head down and keep working,” Anderson said.

If you want to listen to the audio of his press conference with reporters, you can listen to that here.

Before Sunday’s game, it was revealed the Panthers were actively shopping Anderson around the league. After Sunday’s ejection, it’d be a surprise if Carolina kept him on their roster for much longer.

NFL head coaches are not known for tolerating arguments like that on their sidelines. Not only that, but Anderson is also one of the only players to ever get ejected from his own sideline in the middle of a game. The other was of course, Antonio Brown. We’ll have to see how the situation plays out.
