The number one overall pick of the 2022 NBA Draft, Paolo Banchero, was wired for sound during his Summer League game against the Kings. A compilation of moments from the first quarter were played by the ESPN broadcast that showed off his vocal leadership on the court and scoring ability. The microphone gave fans a chance to see how his defensive presence helps his teammates, as well as directing them through plays on offense.

Paolo Banchero wired for sound

The newest NBA rising star finished the first quarter with some frustrating turnovers, but an overall strong quarter with nine points, two steals and an assist — along with four turnovers. Banchero himself spoke to the ESPN broadcast team during the break between quarters about his turnovers being a major concern for him, showing off his focus.

“I’m alright, I got nine points but I got four bad turnovers. So I gotta clean up and be better in the second quarter. Just be better. We’re losing right now.”

Early in his NBA debut, it’s evident that Banchero’s athleticism lets him play at the NBA level — and his comments after the first quarter are a strong indicator that he’s not resting with “good” performances on the court.

Banchero made a strong showing in his Summer League debut on Thursday against the Houston Rockets that continued into the weekend. The former Duke star scored 17 points and recorded six assists and four rebounds in that game, with his defensive presence making an impact all game long.

Banchero shines with 360 dunk

Banchero showed off his athleticism in a fantastic highlight in the first quarter with a 360 dunk. Banchero stole the ball with nobody in between him and the basket, gathering his dribble and showing off a two-handed 360 dunk for the Las Vegas fans.

An easy steal forced by Banchero’s defensive pressure led to a free fast break opportunity and a moment of creativity with his dunk. The huge dunk was the second of the quarter for Banchero after an early post move on the baseline saw him finish with two hands on the other side of the rim.
