He may still be trailing former New England head coach Bill Belichick but Andy Reid’s tenure as head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs with three Super Bowl wins is earning him recognition as one of the best coaches in the game. Ask Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, however, and Reid’s not *one of* the best, but the best head coach in the NFL.

“He’s one of the best coaches of all time. I believe he’s the best coach of all time,” Mahomes said post-game. “I know he doesn’t have the trophies yet, and I have a lot of respect for some of those great coaches. But the way he’s able to navigate every single team he has, and continue to have success no matter where he’s at.”

“He brings out the best in me because he lets me be me,” he added.

Since the Chiefs drafted Mahomes, he’s won three Super Bowl MVP titles and become one of the highest-paid quarterbacks. There are very few teams who wouldn’t trade for the former Texas Tech star if they had the opportunity. There are also very few teams who wouldn’t take Andy Reid as their head coach, even if he’s pushing retirement age.

Travis Kelce: ‘He’s one of the best leaders of men’

Reid and Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce had a very public incident on the sidelines on Sunday night with the star getting in the head coach’s face and yelling passionately. After the game, during which he led the team with nine receptions and 93 yards, Kelce praised his coach profusely.

“He’s one of the best leaders of men I’ve ever seen in my life,” Kelce said. “And he’s helped me a lot with that, with channeling that emotion, with channeling that passion. I owe my entire career to that guy and being able to kind of control how emotional I get and just love him.”

Andy Reid not ready to retire yet

Reporters were quick to ask the 65-year-old head coach whether he was planning to continue coaching the Chiefs after winning yet another Lombardi. Several of his contemporaries made the life-changing decision to retire or step down at the end of the 2023 season, but Reid’s got more in the tank.

“Yeah. Sure,” Reid said about whether he’ll continue coaching. “I’m mad at (Bill) Belichick and Pete (Carroll) because now I get asked all those questions.”

Andy Reid last signed a contract extension with the Chiefs following the first Super Bowl win in their run of victories. He signed a six-year extension and he has two years left on his current deal. He’ll likely receive a pay bump from the $12 million a year salary he receives now after hoisting yet another Lombardi Trophy.
