As Super Bowl LVIII came to an end, Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Mecole Hardman etched his name in history for the franchise.

He put the cap on Kansas City’s 25-22 overtime victory, catching the game-winning touchdown from the hands of Patrick Mahomes. However, in hilarious fashion, Hardman didn’t know at the time that his touchdown was the one that ended things.

During a post-game interview, Mahomes told the story that he actually had to relay the information to Hardman that his touchdown just won the Super Bowl for the Chiefs, starting the celebration after he just connected with the wide receiver on a walk-off.

“Can I tell a quick funny story? I threw a touchdown to this dude to end the game, and he looked at me and he had no idea. I said, ‘Dude, we just won the Super Bowl.’ He had no idea. He didn’t even celebrate at the beginning. I was like, what are we doing?” Mahomes said, laughing the whole way through.

Alas, it doesn’t get better than that. Hardman has the touchdown, and the hilarious story to go with it. Thankfully, he’ll have the replay to rewind over and over again, as the wide receiver revealed he actually blacked out when he caught the ball.

“Man, it feels great. I’m telling you,” said Hardman. “I blacked out when I caught the ball, though. It feels awesome.”

In the end, Hardman finished tied for second on the team in all receiving categories. He totaled three receptions for 57 yards and the touchdown. The receptions and yards finished behind only Travis Kelce while he tied Marquez Valdes-Scantling with the score.

The last of the trio was from three yards out, led to his lone score, and, as such, won the Super Bowl with three seconds left in overtime.

Hardman started the season in New York after signing with the Jets on a one-year deal. In five games with his second team, he caught just one pass for six yards.

That was before Kansas City dealt back for him to cement their receiving corps with a familiar face. They were able to do so by sending out a pair of picks in the 2025 NFL Draft.

In 10 appearances back with the Chiefs, Hardman caught 17 passes for 174 yards and one touchdown. Essentially all of that came in the season finale in the regular season. That was the case except for tonight’s production where he caught some passes and ended up walking it off inside Allegiant Stadium.

He’s sure happy to have finished the season with the Chiefs, and now Mecole Hardman has a story to tell for the rest of his life, walking off in the Super Bowl.
