Patriots cornerback Jack Jones pleaded not guilty on weapons charges during a court appearance Tuesday in Boston.

He’d already posted $30.000 bail after he was arrested for carrying two guns in his carry-on bags as he went through airport security. His next court date is set for Aug. 18, during the middle of New England’s preseason training camp. However, the date also is set for an off day. The team then plays at Lambeau Field in a game against the Packers.

Jones went through security at Boston’s Logan Airport on Friday. TSA officials said they found two loaded Glock 9 mm handguns, with two extra magazines packed with his clothes in his carry-on duffel bag. His name was on the tag. TSA agents discovered the guns when the duffel bag passed through X-ray screening.

“All Mr. Jones wants to do is play football,” his lawyer, Rosemary Scapicchio, told reporters after the Tuesday hearing. “He doesn’t want to be a distraction at all.”

“He had no intention of bringing any guns onto an airport that day,” Scapicchio said.

Jack Jones faces a total of 10 counts of weapons charges

Jones faces two counts each of the following five charges: possession of a concealed weapon in a secure area of an airport, possession of ammunition without a Firearm Identification Card, unlawful possession of a firearm, carrying a loaded firearm and possession of a large-capacity feeding device.

Jack Jones did not comment to the media, Tuesday. Neither did the Patriots. After Friday’s arrest, the team issued a statement, saying:

“We have been notified that Jack Jones was arrested at Logan Airport. “We are in the process of gathering more information and will not be commenting further at this time.”

Scapicchio said that evidence will show Jones wasn’t aware that the guns were in his carry-on bag. She said he was cooperative with police.

The Patriots selected Jones in the fourth round of last year’s draft. Jones started two games and played in 13. His best play possibly was an interception of Aaron Rodgers. He returned the pick for a touchdown. In all, he posted 30 tackles, with two interceptions and six recording 30 tackles, two interceptions, and six passes defended.
