UNC and Pitt emerged victorious in the early session of Thursday’s ACC Tournament, advancing to the semifinals. Both teams are hoping to cut down the nets in Washington DC and are just two wins away. Getting through one another should prove to be quite the challenge, though.

In a game they needed from an NCAA Tournament standpoint, Pitt was able to take down Wake Forest. North Carolina started the day in our nation’s capital with a win over Florida State.

There is already a data point of these two facing off this season. Pitt hosted North Carolina back in early January, with the Tar Heels earning a 13-point win. Both teams have changed tremendously since then and are set to fight for a spot in the ACC Tournament championship game.

Odds for Pittsburgh vs. North Carolina

Coming into the game, North Carolina is a 6.5-point favorite over Pitt, per FanDuel. The Tar Heels are also currently listed at -285 for the moneyline, right now, while the Panthers are sitting at +230.

The point total for the game is currently set at 147.5 points. Both teams saw their quarterfinal games go over that specific point total.

North Carolina finds itself as the one-seed at the ACC Tournament after winning the regular season championship. Duke had the opportunity to earn a share on the final day but fell short at Cameron Indoor Stadium.

To find the last time the Tar Heels won both the regular season and tournament title, you have to go back to 2016. They wound up making the Final Four and national championship game before losing to Villanova.

Pitt has been a member of the ACC since 2013 but has never cut down the nets. Their last conference tournament title came in 2008 when they were members of the Big East. If head coach Jeff Capel can get two more wins, it would be a historic moment for the program.
