The wife of Travis Swaggerty, an outfielder for the Pittsburgh Pirates, was hospitalized after being attacked by a raccoon.

Peyton Swaggerty entered the Mayo Clinic last Thursday while she battles a rare blood disease. That blood disease apparently comes from a rabid raccoon that had attacked her. That attack was, apparently, over a year ago and has seen her going through medical tests and treatments ever since.

Swaggerty announced what was happening on Twitter.

“My wife Peyton heads to the Mayo Clinic (with Sutton and her parents and nana) after being attacked by a rabid raccoon over a year ago and a lot of guesses and medicines have been thrown at her,” Swaggerty wrote.

“She’s now been diagnosed with an extremely rare, painful blood disease that has completely taken over her body. It has riddled her with unresolved pain and problems and completely taken her quality of life away from her. I wanted to share this to ask for support and prayers for her, along with reminding everyone to not take anything for granted in this life, especially the little things. Her faith and trust in God has never wavered. Please take the time to pray for her if you feel compelled to and for the doctors to give her some comfort, and ultimately a solution.”

In his post, Swaggerty also praised Peyton for how good of a mother she has been while battling illness.

Travis Swaggerty was taken by the Pirates in the first round of the 2018 MLB Draft. He first cracked the MLB roster in 2022. However, he began the 2023 season in Triple-A.

The couple got married in 2020. Unfortunately, Peyton has dealt with numerous health issues before, including thyroid cancer and what has been described as a “difficult pregnancy.”

MLB pitcher Liam Hendriks got a standing ovation during his return

Liam Hendriks, an MLB pitcher for the Chicago White Sox, was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin lymphoma during the offseason. It was a difficult battle but less than five months later, he returned to the field against the Los Angeles Angels.

When the star relief pitcher entered the game, he got an emotional standing ovation.

“What he’s done and how he’s done it has been remarkable,” White Sox manager Pedro Grifol said, via the Houston Chronicle. “It’s an inspiration to everybody on this club, It’s an inspiration to everybody who follows the game and knows of Liam.”
