After initially signing with the Chicago Bears outside of the 2022 NFL Draft, former Ohio State running back Master Teague III signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers on Wednesday. The Steelers announced the move in conjunction with the assignment of running back Jeremy McNichols to the Injured/Reserve list.

The Bears waived Teague after rookie minicamp in May. Now, he has a chance to make an impact for the Steelers behind Najee Harris.

Teague was a member of three Big Ten Championship teams during his time in Columbus, as well as two squads that made a trip to the College Football Playoff. He was a regular contributor in the backfield throughout that time, ending his college career with 1,764 yards and 17 touchdowns on 5.5 yards per carry. His best year came during the 2020 season, when he rushed for 514 yards and eight touchdowns on 104 carries to earn second-team All-Big Ten honors.

A former four-star recruit in 2018, Teague ranked as the No. 12 running back and No. 187 overall player in the class according to On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average.

McNichols hits Steelers’ IR after signing one-year contract

The Steelers announced the signing of RB Jeremy McNichols on July 26, just a week before he suffered a shoulder injury and moved to the IR list.

McNichols spent the last two seasons as a dual-threat back in 30 appearances for the Tennessee Titans. He totaled 128 career touches in Nashville for 655 yards from scrimmage and two touchdowns. His other NFL stops came in 2017 with San Francisco, 2018 in Indianapolis, and 2019 in Jacksonville.

Tampa Bay drafted McNichols in 2017 out of Boise State where he finished with 4,294 yards and 55 touchdowns.

The Steelers’ active RB room now has Master Teague, Najee Harris, Benny Snell Jr., Mataeo Durant and Jaylen Warren.
