Former collegiate All-American and two-time national champion Tanner Muse is no longer a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

On Monday morning, NFL insider Tom Pelissero reported that PIT had waived the former Clemson star as part of final roster cuts, which are taking place this week across the league, where each club has to get down to just 53 guys.

According to Pelissero, Muse will not be one of those 53 for the Steelers. Here was his report of the news, as posted to Twitter:

“The #Steelers are waiving LB Tanner Muse, per source.”

A third-round pick out of Clemson, Muse originally signed a four-year rookie deal with the Raiders for $4.32 million. Las Vegas waived him in September of 2021 and the Seahawks picked him up the very next day. He signed to the Seahawks active roster in December.

Ahead of the 2022 season, Muse signed a one-year deal for $660,000. He tallied a career-high 16 tackles while playing in all 17 games that year for Seattle, starting one of them.

Despite coming off a decent season, Muse struggled to find a new home and eventually signed with Pittsburgh for a deal that totaled a hair over a million dollars.

Now, he’ll see very little of that deal as he has been waived before the first game even kicked off. With his stats from 2022, though, Muse won’t stick on the free agent market long and will certainly find a new home, whether it’s on a roster or with a practice squad.

The North Carolina native signed with Clemson out of high school. He finished his career with the Tigers with 237 career tackles, 10.5 for loss, 15 passes broken up, four sacks, and seven interceptions for a total of 102 return yards.

Other Steelers Cuts

The Steelers trimmed eight players from their roster this past Saturday, with far more significant moves being made by Tuesday.

At last count, Pittsburgh still has 82 players on the roster. They’ll need to shed 29 more players by Tuesday at 4 p.m. Eastern. Unlike past seasons, this year, the NFL has only one major cut-down date.

Here’s who the Steelers waived — wide receiver Dan Chisena, defensive back Nevelle Clarke, linebacker Kuony Deng and cornerback Madre Harper. Pittsburgh cut defensive lineman James Nyamwaya, kicker B.T. Potter, linebacker Forrest Rhyne and long snapper Rex Sunahara.

The moves showed the Steelers’ intentions on special teams. Christian Kuntz remains the long snapper. And Chris Boswell sticks at kicker.
