The Rams received some bad news pertaining to wide receiver Cooper Kupp. Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the star suffered a “setback” with his hamstring and could keep him sidelined a while longer.

Head coach Sean McVay said Kupp is “day-to-day” after the setback. Per NFL.com, the receiver suffered a muscle strain.

Kupp initially injured the hamstring on Aug. 1 and left practice. He returned to the field just a few days later, but it’s obviously not a good sign that he’s dealing with another issue so close to the start of the season.

Kupp provides the Rams with a great offensive weapon and has proven to be pivotal to the team’s success in the past. His 2022 campaign was cut short due to injury, playing in just nine contests last fall.

In that shortened season, the receiver totaled 812 yards and six touchdowns on 75 catches. The year before, Kupp put up huge numbers.

Kupp piled up a career-best 1,947 yards and 16 touchdowns on 145 receptions during the regular season. He kept pouring it on defenses during the Rams’ Super Bowl run in the postseason. He hauled in 33 passes for 478 yards and six scores.

After that huge season, Kupp raked in NFL Offensive Player of the Year honors and was named the Super Bowl LVI MVP. He also earned his first Pro Bowl honor of his career.

Kupp has spent his entire NFL career with the Rams. In his first six seasons in the league, he’s racked up 508 catches for 6,329 yards and 46 touchdowns.

Obviously, the day-to-day status doesn’t give us much of an idea of when Kupp could return to the field. The good news for Los Angeles? It’s only day-to-day. Will he be ready for the season opener in less than two weeks?

Los Angeles kept six receivers on the roster as part of the 53-man roster, which was set earlier this week. In addition to Kupp, the Rams will rely on Van Jefferson, Tutu Atwell, Ben SkowronekPuka Nacua and Demarcus Robinson in the passing attack.

The Rams open up the year against the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday, Sept. 10. Kickoff is set for 4:25 p.m. ET on FOX.
