At last, Randall Cobb has found pay dirt in a New York Jets (5-8) uniform.

In his eighth game this season, Cobb scored his first touchdown of the 2023 campaign in the Week 14 home tilt against the Houston Texans (7-6). Cobb’s 15-yard score broke a deadlock and gave the Jets a 6-0 lead in the third quarter.

Cobb, 33, signed a one-year deal with the Jets this offseason. A longtime teammate of quarterback Aaron Rodgers when the two were together on the Green Bay Packers, Cobb has seldom been involved in the offense this season. Playing with multiple quarterbacks, including Zach Wilson, Cobb entered Sunday’s contest with just three receptions for 20 yards in seven games. Cobb hauled in 625 receptions for 7,585 yards and 53 touchdowns in the 12 seasons prior to joining New York.

Cobb’s effort helped New York secure a 30-6 win over Houston — their second-highest scoring output this season. It’s only the second time the Jets’ offense has hit 30 points in 13 games. Wilson, thrust back into the starting lineup, had one of his best games, if not his best game in the NFL. The 2021 second overall pick out of BYU completed 27-of-36 passes for 301 yards and two touchdowns. It’s Wilson’s third-career 300-yard game and first this season.

Jets defeat Texans as Zach Wilson outduels CJ Stroud

Wilson outplayed his counterpart, Texans quarterback CJ Stroud, who struggled in a rainy day at MetLife Stadium. Stroud left the game after taking a brutal hit in the fourth quarter. He entered concussion protocol after banging his head on the turf. Stroud struggled mightily, completing 10-of-23 passes for 91 yards while being sacked four times. He did not throw a touchdown or interception.

Stroud’s dismal performance was unusual. The 22-year-old has been electric this season, named AFC Offensive Player of the Month for November.

He threw for 1,466 yards and a dozen touchdowns in November, while registering a quarterback rating of 109.9. The Texans sported a 3-1 record during this stretch, losing only to the Jacksonville Jaguars (8-4), their AFC South rivals.
