Marquise “Hollywood” Brown did not practice on Thursday for the Baltimore Ravens, according to NFL.com. He sat out of practice for the second-straight day, due to an ankle injury, according to reports. If he can’t play on Sunday, his loss would be yet another big one for the Ravens offense, which has been decimated by injuries early in the 2021 campaign.

Not only has Baltimore lost several of their running backs to season-ending injuries, but they lost promising rookie wideout Rashod Bateman as well. Bateman is on injured reserve and has to miss at least three weeks. He will be eligible to return in Week 4, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

The Ravens’ upcoming opponent is the Kansas City Chiefs, so clearly they need all the offensive firepower they can get.

Brown also sat out of Wednesday’s practice, so his status for Sunday’s game remains a huge question mark. He suffered a hamstring injury in the Ravens’ fall camp this off-season.

As a rookie in 2019, “Hollywood” sat out most of training camp with a Lisfranc injury he suffered at Oklahoma.

The Ravens have high expectations for Brown entering his third season and he’s expected to be one of the leading receivers on the team, along with Sammy Watkins and tight end Mark Andrews.

The beginning of “Hollywood” Brown

FOX play-by-play legend Gus Johnson actually coined the nickname “Hollywood” for the star receiver back during his days as a Oklahoma wide receiver. He gave Brown the nickname not only because of his big-play ability but his hometown is actually Hollywood, Florida.

Few can inject excitement into a college football contest quite like Gus Johnson. When combined with the big-play ability of “Hollywood Brown“, the two were the perfect marriage in college football. Johnson developed such an affinity for Brown that he had to meet him.

NFL stats

During his time with the Ravens, Brown has demonstrated the big-play ability that college football fans became accustomed to during his days at Oklahoma.

His best season in the NFL came last year, when he hauled in 58 catches for 769 yards and eight touchdowns. The third-year wideout was focusing on his health entering his third season with the Baltimore Ravens. So far for his NFL career, Brown has hauled in 110 catches for 1,422 yards, and 16 receiving touchdowns. He is the cousin of Bucs’ wide receiver Antonio Brown.
