Report: Justin Fields status update ahead of Packers game

Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields might not miss any time this week after suffering an apparent leg injury on Sunday. Fields only had to exit the game versus the Raiders for a couple of plays before jogging it off and returning to the field.
The former Ohio State Buckeyes quarterback underwent tests on his knee on Monday. He hyperextended his left knee, according to NFL insider Tom Pelissero, but he’s expected to play versus the Green Bay Packers on Sunday.
Even with the positive report from Pelissero, Bears fans won’t be satisfied until Justin Fields turns up as a full participant on the Chicago practice report on Wednesday.
Fields’ post-game comments were reassuring.
“I knew I hyperextended it. After a while I could start feeling my strength getting back, so I was just trying to see how stable it was and seeing if I could run on it,” Fields said.
Sunday was Fields’ first start as the Bears’ “official” starter. Matt Nagy said he earned the title after a few weeks of waiting on Andy Dalton’s health status.
In the 20-9 win, the first-round draft pick went 12-for-20 for 111 yards and a score. The Raiders sacked Fields twice and hit him several more times but the rookie toughed it out.
“His toughness was great, it was awesome,” Matt Nagy said after the win. “So that’s all. That’s the No. 1 thing I’m taking out of this, is his toughness.”
Through five games, Fields has a 51.4% completion percentage, 458 yards passing, one touchdown and two picks. Only three quarterbacks have more sacks taken than he does so far with 14, one of the three is fellow rookie Zach Wilson.

Fields: Buckeye to Bears starter
Before becoming the future of the Chicago Bears franchise, Justin Fields was a five-star recruit in the state of Georgia. He decided to stay home at Georgia, playing limited time behind Jake Fromm.
Fields then transferred to Ohio State and became an immediate starter. The 6-foot-3, 227-pound quarterback led the Buckeyes to consecutive College Football Playoff appearances before leaving for the NFL Draft.
He finished his college career with 5,701 passing yards, 67 touchdowns and nine interceptions. He also ran for 1,133 yards and 19 touchdowns over his three seasons. Fields was a two-time Big 10 Offensive Player of the Year selection.
