Denver Broncos wide receiver Jerry Jeudy reportedly injured his hamstring and was helped off the field by trainers and a cart on Thursday. The long-term prognosis for the wideout remains unclear.

Jeudy apparently came up holding his right upper leg after taking an end-around during practice, NFL Network’s James Palmer reported. He added that Jeudy was “visibly upset” about the injury.

Eventually, a cart came out to take him off for more medical attention.

“The cart came out to get him. He had trouble getting on in and teammates came over before he was taken inside. He needed help getting off the cart and getting inside,” Palmer tweeted.

The competition for who will play a significant role in the Denver receiving corps has been an interesting storyline to monitor in fall camp. Denver traded up to take Marvin Mims in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft, the first pick the franchise made this year. He joins a group that includes Jeudy, Courtland Sutton, Tim Patrick and KJ Hamler.

Patrick, however, will miss the 2023 season after rupturing his Achilles tendon earlier in camp.

Jeudy was a first-round selection in the 2020 NFL Draft by the Broncos. The franchise took Jeudy with the No. 15 overall pick out of Alabama, where he had starred.

It’s been an up-and-down NFL career for Jeudy to date. He showed flashes as a rookie in Denver in 2020, even with inconsistent quarterback play. Jeudy caught 52 passes for 856 yards and a trio of touchdowns — he also had a 92-yard reception.

In 2021, Jeudy was injured and played in 10 games, starting five. His production accordingly dipped as he caught 38 passes for 467 yards and no scores. And in 2022, despite the Broncos’ well-documented struggles with Russell Wilson at quarterback, Jeudy bounced back. He played in 15 games and set career-highs in receptions (67), yards (972) and touchdowns (six).

With Sean Payton taking over as head coach in Denver and seemingly getting things back on track for Wilson and the offense as a whole, Jeudy could be poised for big things in 2023. But right now, his hamstring has put a wrench in those plans.

Jeudy was high on the Denver wideouts over the summer

Denver’s offense struggled last year, finishing the season as the lowest-scoring unit in the NFL averaging just 16.9 points per game. But according to Jeudy, that can all change this season given the team’s offensive firepower and Payton calling the shots.

“He’s a great offensive-minded guy, Jeudy said. “So him just putting players in the right position and just so they can be successful with different alignments, moving me around and stuff like that, and also just having the other guys around me that it’s hard to just focus on me, because we got KJ, we got Court, Tim Patrick, we got the running backs. … It’s going to be a lot of pieces that you have to focus on that he knows what to do with.”
