The Green Bay Packers are expected to sign former New York Giants safety Xavier McKinney, per Ian Rapoport. He also reported McKinney will receive a four-year deal worth $68 million.

McKinney has spent all four seasons of his NFL career with the Giants, thus far. In four seasons in New York, McKinney amassed 49 appearances, including 46 starts. He collected a career-high 116 tackles in the 2023 campaign while adding two tackles for loss, 11 passes defended, three interceptions and a forced fumble.

McKinney was one of only two defenders in the NFL last season to not miss a single snap. The other player was teammate Bobby Okereke. McKinney was drafted by the New York Giants with the No. 36 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.

McKinney’s signing with the Packers comes after the organization lost safety Darnell Savage, who agreed to a three-year contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars earlier on Monday.

Xavier McKinney spent three seasons at Alabama, where he was a standout defensive back. In his junior season with the Crimson Tide, McKinney earned Second-Team All-America accolades from the AFCA, The Sporting News and Walter Camp. He was also named a Third-Team All-American by the Associated Press.

The Green Bay Packers make more moves

The Green Bay Packers will be parting ways with veteran running back Aaron Jones according to NFL insider Tom Pelissero. Jones was due $12 million in 2024 ahead of his eighth season with Green Bay, but will now hit the open market with Pelissero reporting Monday that the franchise will be releasing him.

The news follows the recent report that Green Bay will be signing former Las Vegas Raiders running back Josh Jacobs. As the Packers will now clearly pivot to a new running back to lead their rushing attack ahead of the 2024 season.

The Packers release Jones after he’s spent all seven seasons of his NFL career with Green Bay, drafting him out of UTEP as a diamond in the rough with the No. 182 overall pick in the fifth round of the 2017 NFL Draft. With his 5,940 rushing yards ranking third all time in franchise history and 45 touchdowns rushing scores ranking fourth in Green Bay’s record books.

After rushing for 108 yards versus the San Francisco 49ers in Green Bay’s divisional playoff loss, Jones became the first Packer to record five consecutive 100-yard rushing games, which now represents his last game in the green and gold.
