On Wednesday evening, New Orleans Saints fans got some clarity on what quarterback Jameis Winston has been dealing with on the injury front. According to Saints’ beat writer Nick Underhill, Winston suffered a ruptured peroneal tendon in his foot against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He surprisingly went back in the game. That injury has been the biggest injury issue that he’s been dealing with and not his back, according to Underhill. While that doesn’t sound like good news at all for Saints fans, Underhill also reported in his tweet thread that Winston is “considered healthy enough” to play by all parties. We’ll have to see if that holds up in the near future.

Winston’s stats this year have not been awful, but they’ve been far from fantastic. He’s only played in three games, completing 63.5 percent of his passes for 858 passing yards, while tossing in four touchdowns and five interceptions. His stat sheet was much cleaner during the 2021 season, and he threw 14 touchdowns with only three interceptions under his old head coach, Sean Payton. While Andy Dalton has performed admirably this season at times, it’s crystal clear he’s not the long-term answer for the Saints. He threw two costly pick-sixes against the Arizona Cardinals on Thursday Night Football, which ended up being the difference in a 42-34 loss.

The big question with Winston’s foot moving forward will be how exactly he and the Saints’ medical staff decides to handle it moving forward. Will it get worse? Will he need surgery? These are all questions that Winston and the Saints will have to deal with moving forward. If the Saints’ season doesn’t improve, they might just decide to shut him down for the rest of the season since he’s also been dealing with multiple fractures in his back, along with the foot injury. Clearly, things do not look good at all for Winston for the rest of this season with the myriad of injuries he’s dealing with.
