With eight different NFL teams currently searching for their next head coaches, there’s plenty of assistant coaches that are beginning to interview for those respective openings. Of the teams that is currently in the process of finding a new head coach is the Las Vegas Raiders, who are reportedly putting in request for interviews.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Raiders have requested permission to interview New England Patriots inside linebackers coach Jerod Mayo for their head coaching position. Additionally, Las Vegas also requested permission to interview New England’s director of player personnel Dave Ziegler for their general manager job.

Per Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, the Raiders are also expected to put in a request to interview Indianapolis Colts assistant general manager Ed Dodds for their general manager position.

Although the Raiders still have interim head coach Rich Bisaccia in place, the organization relieved general manager Mike Mayock of his duties on Monday. So, it appears that Las Vegas’ higher-ups are wanting to make changes at both positions ahead of next season.

Along with the Las Vegas Raiders’ head coaching opening, the Denver Broncos, Jacksonville Jaguars, Minnesota Vikings, Chicago Bears, Miami Dolphins, New York Giants and Houston Texans are all on the hunt for new head coaches.

Las Vegas Raiders release statement after firing general manager Mike Mayock

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport was the first to report that the Las Vegas Raiders would be firing general manager Mike Mayock. After three years with the franchise, it will be a new era for owner Mark Davis.

Shortly after the news broke of Mayock’s firing, the Raiders released a statement on the situation. They confirmed the report and thanked him for his work with the organization.

“We have relieved Mike Mayock of his duties as General Manager of the Las Vegas Raiders,” the Raiders said. “We thank Mike for his contributions over the last three years in helping to form the foundation for the franchise to build upon in its future.”

Mayock stepped into the Raiders organization back in 2018 with head coach Jon Gruden. The two failed to ever make the playoffs together after going through their rebuilding process. Las Vegas snuck into the postseason this season but it was without Gruden after he resigned in November.

One of Mayock’s biggest accusations as the general manager was for wide receiver Antonio Brown. The Raiders traded away a third and fifth-round pick before Brown and Mayock got into an interaction during training camp. The wide receiver was released shortly after.
