Former longtime NFL quarterback Matt Hasselbeck is making a new move in his football career, according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel.

He’ll serve as the offensive coordinator at Ensworth School in Nashville. His brother, Tim, who also played in the NFL and was an analyst, is the head coach.

“It’s a great day to be an Ensworth Tiger with the announcement that Matthew Hasselbeck will join our program to serve as our offensive coordinator,” Tim wrote in a release, via The Tennessean. “Matthew has extensive football experience and unmatched knowledge, and he will undoubtedly make a lifelong impact on the players and coaches he mentors.

“He will be an invaluable addition to the Ensworth community and football program.”

Hasselbeck’s NFL career spanned across three decades (1998-2015), but is most known for his Super Bowl run with the Seattle Seahawks in the mid 2000s. After his playing career ended, he joined ESPN where he worked primarily on Sunday NFL Countdown and Monday Night Countdown before leaving the company in 2023.

He most recently coached his alma mater, Xaverian Brothers (MA) this past high school season. There, he served as their quarterbacks coach. His son, Henry, was on the roster and is now a member of UCLA’s 2024 recruiting class.

“I have loved coaching high school football for the past two years, and I am looking forward to returning to Nashville in a similar role,” Matt said, via the same report. “Our family absolutely loved our Ensworth experience when we were with the Tennessee Titans, and we look forward to this opportunity to rejoin the Ensworth community.”

During his own playing career, Hasselbeck was originally the sixth-round pick of the Green Bay Packers. After three years behind Hall of Fame quarterback Brett Favre, he was traded to Seattle. The trade included a first-round pick swap and a third-round pick. When Mike Holmgren left the Packers for the Seahawks, he later acquired Hasselbeck from his former team.

In 2003, he took over as the full-time starter for the Seahawks. Leading the team to a 10-6 record and made his first of three Pro Bowl appearances. In 2005, Hasselbeck had his most productive season. He led the Seahawks to the number one-overall seed in the NFC with a 13-3 record. After dominating in the playoffs, the Seahawks made it to the Super Bowl where they lost to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Ultimately Hasselbeck would spend another five years in Seattle before signing with the Titans for the 2011 season. In his ten years in Seattle, he started 131 of the 138 games he played. He would finish with 74 wins, 174 touchdowns, and 29,434 yards passing. He was named to the team’s Ring of Honor in 2021.
