Gray Gaulding, a part-time NASCAR Xfinity driver, has been arrested. According to TobyChristie.com, Gaulding was arrested by the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday morning on a Crime of Domestic Violence charge. He was released later on Tuesday.

TobyChristie.com says there are no court dates scheduled for Gaulding, according to the North Carolina Judicial Branch website.

Gaulding has not made an appearance in the NASCAR National Series this year. In 2023, the 26-year-old competed in 11 races during the Xfinity Series season and recorded two top-10 finishes. Gaulding ran one NASCAR Cup Series race last season at the World Wide Technology Raceway where he finished 29th.

Looking at Gray Gaulding’s career

In Gaulding’s career, he competed in 79 Xfinity Series races and 60 Cup Series races. He recorded eight top-10 finishes in Xfinity Series events and just one in the Cup Series. In 2018, Gaulding competed in the Daytona 500 and finished 20th.

In a 2023 interview with Frontstretch, Gaulding talked about growing up with a lot of expectations. “The pressure when it comes to racing, especially at a high level, no matter the series … when you’re racing, whether it’s a high-profile team or a low-profile team, you have those expectations in those things that you want to live up to,” he said. “And I’m a competitor, like, if you told me right now ‘hey, I want to run a foot race,’

“I’m going to do everything in my power to beat you. I’m a competitor. What I’ve learned, though … I’m 25 now. I’ve been racing professionally in NASCAR since I was 15. So basically 10 years of high-profile racing and trying to do all the right things and also build my name, build my resume, but I think for me the number one thing I take away is experience.”

Gaulding also discussed competing in the Daytona 500 at 18 years old. “That was always my dream, to make it to that point, to race the biggest race in the world which, for me, was always the Daytona 500 … I feel like every driver truly has their own story,” he explained.

“And I think with me, I have my own story. I’m a grinder, I work hard, anything that I put my head into, whether it’s racing, golfing, bowling, I want to be the best of the best. I just have that competitive edge, and I think a lot of drivers also have that, too, but once again, like I said, we all have our own story.
