With over hundreds of millions of viewers watching him at home, future Hall of Fame tight end Rob Gronkowski showed why he caught footballs for a living and didn’t kick them. Just a few minutes ahead of the 2024 Super Bowl between the Chiefs and 49ers, Gronk missed his 25-yard field goal attempt wide right. It was the second commercial that has been a part of FanDuel’s ‘Kick of Destiny.’

For fans surprised to see Gronkowski in the spotlight after his playing career, you’d better get used to him. He’s beloved by many companies like FanDuel and many others because of his extensive following and his fun-loving personality. One thing about Gronkowski, he won’t be afraid to laugh at himself and a missed kick like that one will just be another story for him to tell.

He finished his playing career as one of the most decorated tight ends in NFL history. He and Tom Brady were one of the most dominant QB-TE duos in league history during their time with the Patriots and their brief stint with the Tampa Bay Bucs. With New England, Gronkowski had four seasons of over 1,000 yards receiving. He also battled an extensive number of injuries throughout his playing career.

He holds two NFL records for the tight end position: the most total touchdowns in a season by a tight end (18) and the most receiving touchdowns in a single season by a tight end (17). Once he hung up his cleats, he’d won four Super Bowls and was named to five Pro Bowls.

One of the greatest New England Patriots players of all time, he’s a member of the franchise’s All-2010s team and their All-Dynasty team. He also holds the Patriots franchise record of total receiving touchdowns (79). There’s no question he’ll end up in the Pro Football Hall of Fame with one of the closest teammates of his playing career, Tom Brady.

Gronkowski, who starred at Arizona before heading to the NFL, battled injuries during the 2021 season, but still put up good numbers. He hauled in 55 receptions for 802 yards and six touchdowns for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, which finished 13-4 and fell to the eventual Super Bowl champion Los Angeles Rams in the NFC Divisional Round of the playoffs that season.

As a high school prospect coming out of Woodland Hills (Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania), Gronkowski was rated as the No. 160 overall player in the country and a four-star recruit, according to the On3 Industry Rankings for the 2007 cycle.
