Former SEC rivals Roger McCreary and Treylon Burks are now teammates on the Tennessee Titans, something McCreary is excited. Burks scored two touchdowns for Arkansas against McCreary’s Auburn defense, leading to a moment after the game that McCreary spoke about on Wednesday. Auburn won their matchup 38-23, but the pair of top-talents developed a great respect for each other on the field.

Roger McCreary on joining with Treylon Burks

“Treylon Burks, I feel like, going into the draft a lot of people asked me who I think is one of the better receivers in the class — a lot of people sleep on Treylon Burks,” said McCreary. “That guy there, just his size… just his size, that he can do a lot. He’s not a slow guy, he can run, he’s quick, he can jump. So going into that game, it was just great going against that guy. Like that type of big receiver. I’m happy that I went against him and after the game we spoke and said ‘good luck’ and I’m happy now that we’re both teammates now.”

McCreary was selected by the Titans with the 35th overall pick in the draft, after four seasons with the Tigers and impressive 2020 and 2021 seasons. McCreary totaled 79 tackles for Auburn as a junior and senior, including nine tackles for a loss and five interceptions. McCreary also received first-team All-SEC honors and appeared in the Reese’s Senior Bowl.

Meanwhile, Burks was selected in the first round by the Titans after a blockbuster trade of their star receiver A.J. Brown to move up in the draft. The Titans picked Burks with the 18th pick of the draft — a player physically compared to the former Titans receiver that was traded away on draft day.

Burks had 1,104 yards and 11 touchdowns for Arkansas in 2021 and was virtually a consensus pick to be selected on Day 1 of the draft. He earned first team All-SEC honors, as well as McCreary last season, and was second-team All-SEC the year before.
