For the first time since 2014, former Michigan head football coach Jim Harbaugh will participate in the NFL Draft — this time, as head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers.

Los Angeles is stocked with nine picks in the 2024 NFL Draft. What they end up doing with those selections, including the fifth overall pick, remains to be seen, but Roman Wilson has a strong idea where his former head coach is leaning.

Wilson, one of 18 Michigan prospects to participate in the NFL Scouting Combine last month in Indianapolis, said this week on the “NFL on FOX Podcast” that he wouldn’t be surprised to see Harbaugh grab “at least five or six” former Wolverines in the draft.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if like all nine of us end up going [to the Chargers],” Wilson said, via FOX Sports. “But seriously, like at least five or six. I think he’s going to take a lot of us.”

Wilson, a likely Day 2 pick, could certainly be one of those picks. The Chargers have a huge hole at the receiver position after trading Keenan Allen to the Chicago Bears and releasing Mike Williams. Wilson said he’s been eyeing the Chargers throughout the draft process.

“I’d love to go out there and play, especially at pick 37,” Wilson said. “I wouldn’t be upset with that. I’d get to reunite with my coach and maybe some of my former teammates. I’d absolutely love that.”

Wilson led the Wolverines in receiving this past season, hauling in 48 receptions for 789 yards and 12 touchdowns. He earned second-team All-Big Ten honors and played a big role in Michigan going 15-0 en route to winning the College Football Playoff National Championship.

Michigan will have a shot to break Georgia’s record for the most players selected in a single NFL Draft. Last year, 15 Bulldogs were selected. Wilson said he takes a lot of pride in being surrounded by fellow NFL-caliber players during his time in Ann Arbor.

“I take a lot of pride in that,” Wilson said. “I was part of that team in 2020, when we were down at Michigan. Just seeing the culture shift, the team change, and the coaches change, everyone just adapted, got better and just build up this program from the ground up. At the time, Coach Harbaugh used to tell us, ‘No one really talks about us anymore. No one really cares. Let’s create some noise around here.’

“We did. Hopefully, I can stay as long as possible. I just love Michigan for what they did for me and what we built there. It means a lot to me.”
