The new Trackhouse Racing drivers are already hard at work, pushing Ross Chastain in gym workouts this offseason, according to Melon Man himself. Chastain recently talked about Zane Smith and Shane van Gisbergen and how the three NASCAR drivers are busy in the gym.

NASCAR drivers now more than ever, need to be in the best shape they can possibly be in. Endurance, strength, and knowing how to push through pain – all of that is important. Drivers are legit athletes in this era of the sport.

Ross Chastain talked with PRN about those workouts with his new teammates. SVG is a three-time champion in Supercars and a three-time winner of the Bathurst 1000, and Zane Smith is a Truck Series champion. So, Chastain has tough competition in the gym.

“It’s going to be good. Zane’s already right in the gym with us and in the trenches,” Chastain said on PRN’s Garage Pass. “They’re [Zane Smith and Shane van Gisbergen] both pushing me to step it up a bit.”

Chastain is a little smaller than Smith and van Gisbergen, who both stand over six feet tall. With all of the athletes at Trackhouse, like former Penn State running back Journey Brown, those gym sessions probably get intense.

Ross Chastain has new competition in his house

There could be a lot of change at Trackhouse Racing in the next year or two. There has already been a ton in the last eight months or so. Since Shane van Gisbergen won in his debut at the Chicago Street Course, Trackhouse has revamped and become even more exciting than they were before.

Adding Smith and SVG to their roster that already included two of the most marketable, and at one time, perhaps underrated talents, of Daniel Suárez and Chastain was a huge move. It is clear that Trackhouse is planning on expanding, how much they expand likely depends on performances and results over the coming years.

Is there a future where all four drivers get to stay at Trackhouse for the long term? Maybe. Is that guaranteed? Absolutely not. We won’t have a clear picture of what the future looks like in NASCAR or at Trackhouse until the charter agreement is finished and made public.

However, we do know one thing – Ross Chastain is going to be challenged. Smith and SVG are both talents that could excel in the NASCAR Cup Series. Then again, Smith might struggle to adapt to the Next Gen car and the long races of the Cup Series season. SVG might flounder on ovals.

I don’t think failure is the likely option. So, for now, Chastain has a target on his back. Right now, he’s the face of Trackhouse Racing, and he’s got the Busch Light sponsorship – but a lot can change in a year or two.
