If you want someone that badly in free agency in the NFL, you don’t let them leave the building when they visit. According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, that’s exactly what the Green Bay Packers are doing with Sammy Watkins.

“Breaking: Sammy Watkins is signing a one-year deal w the #Packers, per source,” tweeted Schultz.

Earlier on Thursday, it was reported the Clemson star was traveling to Green Bay for a visit with the historic franchise. Evidently, the two sides liked what the other had to say, and an agreement was reached.

Additionally, NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero provided the details of the star wide receiver’s contract in Green Bay.

“It’s a one-year, $4 million deal for Sammy Watkins with the #Packers, per source,” tweeted Pelissero.

After beginning his career with the Buffalo Bills, Watkins has been a member of some tremendous squads. His biggest accomplishment remains helping the Kansas City Chiefs find victory in Super Bowl LIV. Since, he spent last season with the Baltimore Ravens, providing an outlet for star quarterback Lamar Jackson.

The Packers are in dire need of wide receiver help, as the franchise shipped Davante Adams to Las Vegas. While the team could look for help in the draft, Watkins now provides some much-needed depth, as Green Bay also lost Maquez Valdes—Scantling to free agency this offseason.

As Sammy Watkins looks to continue his NFL career and the Packers look to fill some holes, the duo makes a solid match. A deal in Green Bay for the former Clemson star wide receiver was worked up in quick fashion, and the duo hopes the relationship will prove fruitful.

More on Sammy Watkins, Green Bay Packers

Sammy Watkins never lived up to his billing as someone who could takeover the NFL, but he’s been a strong addition to wide receiver rooms over his NFL career. The former Clemson star has been reliable, and given teams a speedy veteran presence who can still haul in the deep ball.

Over his eight-year NFL career, Watkins has accumulated 5,059 receiving yards and 34 receiving touchdowns on 348 receptions. His best season of his career came during his second season for the Buffalo Bills, when Watkins caught 60 passes for 1,047 receiving yards and nine receiving touchdowns.

After playing with Patrick Mahomes in Kansas City and Lamar Jackson in Baltimore, Sammy Watkins will look to become a viable piece of the Packers offense with Aaron Rodgers. Still only 28-years old, Watkins could be an underrated pickup for Green Bay.
