Seattle Seahawks running back Chris Carson will miss the remainder of the season with a neck injury, per NFL reporter Ian Rapoport. The running back will undergo surgery for the injury.

A fifth-year player out of Oklahoma State, Carson has battled injuries throughout his entire career. He has never played a full season, though this year is the most extensive amount of time he has missed.

Carson has not played since an Oct. 3 matchup against San Francisco. In his absence, the Seahawks have turned to Alex Collins to handle the lead back duties.

Taken in the seventh round of the 2017 NFL draft, Carson quickly showed himself to be a steal. Still, he struggled to stay on the field. Following back-to-back 1,000-yard rushing seasons in 2018 and 2019, Carson played just 12 games last year, accumulating 681 yards. He has played in four games this year with 232 yards and three touchdowns.

The Seahawks have been hit hard with injuries lately, as quarterback Russell Wilson also missed four weeks with a finger injury. He made his return to the field against Green Bay in Week 10, but went just 20-of-40 for 161 yards and two interceptions.

Sitting at 3-6 and last place in the NFC West, it seems unlikely that Seattle will be able to turn its season around at this point. That would require near-perfect play down the stretch with little room for error. They have eight games left on the schedule with half coming against divisional opponents.

The Seahawks will get their next chance at victory at 4:25 p.m. ET on Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals (8-2). Playing without both Kyler Murray and DeAndre Hopkins, the Cardinals lost to Carolina in Week 10.

Seattle will do its best in that one of the heels of the bad news regarding the neck injury of Chris Carson. Murray’s status against the Seahawks is still in question while Hopkins has already been declared out.
