Now that the Baltimore Ravens’ season is over, defensive coordinator Mike MacDonald can turn his full attention to the potential head coaching jobs that he’s up for.

According to NFL insider Tom Pelissero, the latest development for MacDonald is a second interview set to take place with Seattle on Wednesday. Pelissero notes the two sides will meet again after they spoke in Baltimore just the day before on Tuesday.

Here was his report of that meeting:

“The #Seahawks are bringing in #Ravens DC Mike Macdonald today for a second interview for their head coaching job, per sources. Seattle met with Macdonald, 36, on Tuesday in Baltimore. Now, he’s going through the expanded process they did with other candidates.”

MacDonald’s name has also been mentioned with both the Commanders and Panthers job and interviewed for both. However, his contact with Seattle appears to be much more serious, since he is completing a second meet-up with the franchise in the span of two days.

MacDonald also isn’t the only serious candidate for Seattle, even with a defensive background, as Seattle has interviewed Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn twice as well.

Quinn has more experience in the NFL as a former head coach of the Atlanta Falcons and also a longtime defensive coordinator in the pros, spending the last few years with a solid Cowboys unit after he had previously led none other than the Seahawks to the Super Bowl back during the glory days of the Pete Carroll, Russell Wilson and Legion of Boom era.

Fox Sports reported that another candidate, Lions OC Ben Johnson, was set to interview with Seattle as well as the Commanders. Plus, that MacDonald was interviewing with the same two teams:

“Johnson will reportedly interview with the Seahawks on Monday and the Commanders on Tuesday, with both meetings taking place in Detroit. Meanwhile, Macdonald will reportedly speak with Commanders on Monday and the Seahawks on Tuesday.”

However, Johnson has since decided to take his name out of consideration for any head coaching jobs to stay in Detroit as the Lions offensive coordinator for at least another year. That’s significant because it now gives MacDonald one less competitor in each of those openings while narrowing the field for Seattle and Washington.

Keep your ears to the grindstone, folks, because coaching news is flying around like boomerang lately. It appears Mike MacDonald could certainly be in line for a head coaching job if he wants ont.
