Seattle Seahawks wide receiver D.K. Metcalf caused a stir over the weekend for his outfit choice for fellow wideout Tyler Lockett‘s wedding. The former Ole Miss star opted for a tuxedo with a bowtie up top, paired with dress shorts, white Air Force 1s and white mid-calf socks.

Although many on the internet had a problem with the look, Lockett appeared to have no issue with his teammate’s choice.

He was all smiles in a photo with Metcalf and former Seattle quarterback Russell Wilson:

Several NFL fans sympathized with Metcalf as the 6-foot-4 wideout found a way to beat the heat at the ceremony.

“I don’t blame DK at all, it was 100 degrees in Macon today,” one fan wrote.

“DK having the audacity to wear shorts and forces to a wedding is INSANE, but the even more insane thing is he pulls them off,” another wrote.

One fan joked that Metcalf’s stunt has now granted him permission to do the same.

“Don’t know if I’ll ever have to wear pants again after this revelation,” he shared.

Metcalf and Lockett both hit 1,000 receiving yards last season as the Seahawks went 9-8. The former second-rounder had 1,048 yards in 17 games played with six touchdowns, while his newly-wed teammate had 1,033 and nine touchdowns in 16 games.

In what was supposed to be a rebuilding year last season, post-Russell Wilson, the Seahawks earned a wildcard berth. Metcalf believes they can go further than the first round this season, especially with an even more dynamic passing game.

“We have to decide what type of team we’re going to be and not just listen to the outside noise,” Metcalf told NFL Network. “We just got to be a band of brothers on Sunday just playing for each other, and everything is going to fall in place.”

The Seahawks look formidable heading into the season, especially at wide receiver with the addition of rookie Jaxon Smith-Njigba.

Seattle used the 20th pick of the first round to select Smith-Njigba. The former Ohio State star is already making a big impression on his teammates.

“He’s a great dude. And on the field, he’s a great route runner, excellent hands,” Metcalf said. “So, I think he’s going to open the offense even more. (Plus) Zach Charbonnet is going to do, you know, amazing things at the running back position along with Ken Walker.

“We got a whole arsenal of weapons on offense, adding Bobby [Wagner] back on defense, you know, a leader for not only the defense but the whole team.”
