While he still has one more race weekend in Supercars left, Shane van Gisbergen is almost ready for his American adventure. SVG, the Chicago Street Course race winner, is signed to NASCAR‘s Trackhouse Racing. In 2024, he will drive a development schedule.

So, we are going to see Shane van Gisbergen in the Cup Series next season. Just not full-time. He’s going to race Cup, Xfinity, Trucks, late models, and more. The plan is to get him familiar with oval racing and then get him full-time.

For SVG himself, the plan is to be full-time within a year. By the 2025 season, the 34-year-old is hitting or is right in his prime years as a driver, depending on how you look at it. He spoke with Speedcafe about his two-year plan.

“It sounds like I’m going to be doing a lot of races [next year],” van Gisbergen said.

“When they said that it’s a part-time schedule – maybe 20 races – you know, it’s more than what we do here full-time. I want to get as much experience as I can and hopefully be in the Cup Series [full-time] in ’25.”

Shane van Gisbergen has three Supercars championships. He is still in contention for a fourth in the season finale at Adelaide this month. However, Brodie Kostecki seems to be on his way to claiming the 2023 season title for himself.

Kostecki and his Erebus team are planning on making an alliance with Richard Childress Racing. We’ll get to see Kostecki and van Gisbergen battle in the United States moving forward as well, which is exciting.

Shane van Gisbergen and Trackhouse Racing are good for NASCAR

When you look at other forms of motorsports, IndyCar, F1, Motocross, Supercross, whatever it is – international star power is important. NASCAR has gone a long way with American talent, but stock car racing is more than just the Cup Series, even if it is the top series of the sport.

Supercars in Australia, Turismo Carretera in Argentina, there are series outside of the United States with real talent. Shane van Gisbergen winning at Chicago and then signing a deal to come to America is good for NASCAR.

Trackhouse Racing is the NASCAR team of the future. Along with 23XI Racing and soon to be, Spire Motorsports, there is a new guard in NASCAR ownership. Now, this isn’t to say that these teams are going to usurp the old guard any time soon, but they’re making a lot of noise.

Seeing Shane van Gisbergen in NASCAR next year is going to be a must-watch TV. When he starts to get going on the ovals, watch out. He just might be a generational talent waiting to take over the sport of American stock car racing.
