While Sheldon Creed was second fastest in practice, he’s going to have a bit of trouble holding onto his starting position after wrecking in qualifying. Of course, if Creed goes to a backup car, he’ll have to start in the rear of the NASCAR Xfinity Series field. After his wreck, it is hard to see the team getting his car repaired within less than four hours.

Sheldon Creed was great in practice and qualifying. However, he pushed it a little too hard trying to win that historic pole award for this Chicago Street Race. Coming into the second sweeping turn on the back half of the track, Creed lost control and slid right into the wall.

His Chevy just couldn’t take the hit. It went rear-end first into the wall and brought out the red flag for qualifying. After this incident, the session ended and Cole Custer won the pole.

Creed will still be a threat in this race, but things aren’t going to be easy at this point. His Chevy Camaro was wrecked pretty good. He was able to get it to pit road just fine, but there will be a lot of work to do if they want that car to run on the track.

This race is going to be a lot of fun later this afternoon. There is a lot of talent in this Xfinity Series field that will be vying for the win today.

If Sheldon Creed hadn’t wrecked, he would be my pick to win the race, to be honest. However, we saw Cole Custer’s road course talents with his win at Portland and his P6 finish in the Sonoma race. However, he isn’t the only one who knows how to traverse the twists and turns.

With his fourth pole award of the season, Custer is hitting a hot streak here. He was the pole winner last week at Nashville and followed it up on the streets of Chicago with another pole. There are some other talented drivers to keep an eye on in this race, though.

John Hunter Nemechek was one of the first to really figure out the track. He was third-best in qualifying. His teammate Connor Mosack was also great in the qualifying sessions, he will start P4 behind Nemechek.

While we will wait and see what happens with Sheldon Creed, there is a lot to be excited about in this upcoming race. The Loop 121 is going to be historic. NASCAR on the streets of Chicago for the first time ever.
