Skip Bayless admits he was wrong on predictions about Dak Prescott

Well-known sports talk commentator Skip Bayless is at his wit’s end with the quarterback of his favorite team, the Dallas Cowboys.

That player, Dak Prescott, has been the subject of much ire and angst for the longtime Cowboy superfan and Fox Sports television host. On a recent episode of his show, Undisputed, Bayless issued a statement on his updated feelings about Prescott on the heels of a second straight disappointing playoff exit. He now believes the recent run of success under Prescott may have been more thanks to Ezekiel Elliott than the QB.

“I have tried and tried and tried some more to love this man. I loved him from the start. But I look back now and I think… maybe Zeke had more to do with it than I gave Zeke credit for. I’m talking about, going all the way back to 2016 when they ran off with the whole NFC and went 13-3, and lost to Aaron (Rodgers) of course in Dallas in the shootout game. Dak played great in that game.”

That’s just one game, though. In Bayless’ eyes, Prescott hasn’t been able to win the one game in any given year to get Dallas over the hump throughout his career.

“But in the biggest picture, I believe he’s just good enough to leave us frustrated as Cowboy fans. I believe he’s just good enough to keep his job. Because he’s fringe top-10 — you could make an eighth case, a ninth case — and it’s just good enough where you say, ‘well, you know, give him another contract.’ And give me another heartache.”

Skip then explained the up-and-down nature of the Dallas QB position under Prescott and Tony Romo over the last 20 or so years.

“I thought Romo was a Romo-coaster ride, roller-coaster ride. This guy (Prescott) is the ultimate vomit ride for me, because he goes to Tampa in that first playoff game and he plays the game of his life. I’ve never seen anything like it before. QBR of that game, zero to 100, he’s 97. He’s 25 of 33 for 305 for four touchdowns and no picks. It was perfection, sends Tom (Brady) into the sunset.

“But he does not do well with expectation created by (air quotes) America’s Team. And that is the hottest seat in all of football is to be the quarterback for that team, especially when, all of a sudden, expectations go through the roof at Jerry World.”

Bayless finished up by going back and forth with Keyshawn Johnson about how Prescott came up short vs. San Francisco in both the 2023 and 2022 playoffs. Ultimately, Skip felt the Dallas QB shot the team in the foot.

He just doesn’t believe Dak Prescott can take the Cowboys to the promised land any longer.
