Trailing the Houston Texans in the third quarter on Sunday, the Pittsburgh Steelers ruled out tight end Pat Friermuth after the third-year player suffered a hamstring injury. The former Penn State star won’t return as his squad struggles, down by 10 within the two-minute warning.

Prior to his early exit, Freiermuth had three catches for seven yards. Going into the Week 4 matchup, he had five catches for 46 yards and two touchdowns.

Last season, the former second-rounder had a career-high 63 receptions with two touchdowns and 732 yards.

With Freiermuth sidelined, the Steelers called on rookie tight end Darnell Washington. The former Georgia Bulldog hauled in his first career reception on Sunday against Houston.

In his final season at Georgia, Washington recorded 28 receptions for 454 yards and two touchdowns. The Steelers snagged the 6-foot-7, 265-pound tight end with the No. 93 overall pick during the 2023 NFL Draft.

Steelers lose Pickett to start fourth quarter

A rough day for the Pittsburgh Steelers has gotten worse. Second-year quarterback Kenny Pickett limped off the field in the second half after suffering an apparent leg injury.

Pickett was immediately taken into the blue medical tent to be evaluated and subsequently ruled out with a knee injury.

Prior to his exit, he threw for 114 yards with one interception on 15-for-23 passing.

Pickett finished his rookie campaign with 2,404 yards, seven touchdowns, and nine interceptions on a 63% completion rate. After Pittsburgh’s bye week, though, he really found his groove. He threw for over 1,400 of his yards, five of his touchdowns, and only one of his interceptions in his seven healthy appearances during that stretch.

His step up in play also nearly led to a complete turnaround of the Steeler’s season as they closed at 7-2, including four straight wins, after starting 2-6.

Antonio Brown trolls Matt Canada

Most Steeler fans haven’t loved what they’ve seen from offensive coordinator Matt Canada this year, and on Sunday, Antonio Brown added to the hate when he voiced his frustrations with the Pittsburgh playcaller on Twitter.

Brown posted the following strong opinions on the Steelers OC midway through the first half of their game against the Houston Texans:

“Matt Canada is a horrific combination of being not only the worst, but also the most predictable playcaller in the NFL.”

After throwing his name out there to potentially replace Canada due to the Steelers offense’s slow start to the season, Brown posted a photo of the Pittsburgh coordinator with a drawn-on Hitler mustache.

Not wanting to cause any confusion, AB provided some additional context, tweeting: “Adolf Canada.”
