Tiki Barber revealed this week he has a new announcing assignment for CBS this fall. He’ll now be calling games with Andrew Catalon and Matt Ryan.

Barber dropped this info, Monday, during his radio show on WFAN. What’s intriguing is the addition of Ryan, his new announcing partner. Ryan hasn’t officially retired from the NFL, as yet. But that might be a formality after the Colts released him earlier this year.

Last year, Tiki Barber was in the booth with Tom McCarthy for a smattering of games. Meanwhile, Catalon worked with James Lofton. And Ryan started at quarterback for the Indianapolis Colts. But the Colts are readying for a new quarterback. They drafted Anthony Richardson with the fourth pick, so Indy no longer needed Ryan.

Tiki Barber’s assignment gives clearer picture on CBS lineup

Awful Announcing reported that Tiki Barber’s reassignment gives fans of sports media a clearer picture of CBS’ plans for the NFL season. Jim Nantz and Tony Romo still should be the top team. They’re followed by Ian Eagle and Charles Davis, then Kevin Harlan/Trent Green. It’s unclear what the network plans to do with James Lofton. Plus, Greg Gumbel won’t be calling games this fall. Sports Business Journal reported earlier this year that Gumbel received a long-term deal with CBS. But he won’t be doing NFL games. You can find him doing more college basketball games.

CBS also still has Spero Dedes and Jay Feely in the booth together. Tom McCarthy doesn’t have an announced partner, as yet.

Circling back to Tiki Barber, he started his new afternoon drive show on WFAN earlier this month. The former New York Giant great retired in 2007. And since then, he’s made broadcast his new career. He worked as a correspondent for the Today show and did NBC Sunday Night Football. He’s dabbled in acting and has served as a frequent judge on the Food Network.

Early next month, Tiki Barber will present his brother, Ronde, for induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
